Described from [Paris, France] as ‘Pap.[ilio] Athalia’ (Rottemburg, S. A. v., 1775: Anmerkungen zu den Hufnagelischen Tabellen der Schmetterlinge... — Naturforscher, Halle 6: 5). Distributed from W Europe through Russia and temperate Asia to Japan. The specimen shown here was photographed by © Stoyan Beshkov in Bulgaria, where it is found everywhere in lowlands and mountains.
